Medical Director needed for Walk-In Health Center near Dover, DE. Seeking a BC/BE Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine Physician to coordinate, deliver and supervise walk-in clinic services. Establish and maintain standards of patient care. Participate in planning, development, and coordination of clinical health care programs to meet community health care needs. Job details:

  • Clinic hours: Daily, 9 AM- 7 PM
  • The Medical Director position is 25% administrative and 75% clinical
  • In collaboration with the President/CEO, Leadership Team and clinical team, plans, develops and implements health care programs to meet community health care needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of current medical care programs, studies medical utilization trends and other medical demographic data, and provides related guidance to the President/CEO and Board regarding findings and conclusions.
  • Directs and coordinates clinical aspects of medical care in conjunction with the manager for Walk-in Clinic.
  • Establishes and ensures the maintenance of professional medical practice.
  • Develops written policies, protocols and procedures confirming to standards established by regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors provider productivity and meets regularly with staff to improve productivity.
  • Coordinates and leads the monthly provider/staff meeting.
  • Oversees and provides direct medical care at each walk-in site as appropriate, providing fourteen (12-hour) clinical shifts per month.
  • Oversees the provision of worker’s compensation services and certification of all providers.
  • Collaborates with the financial management of the Center. 
  • Provides direct supervision of all clinic NP’s.
  • Provides a minimum of 40 hours of administrative service per month. 
  • Effectively supervises physicians, mid-level providers.
  • Establishes physician supervision of non-physician providers as outlined by the Delaware Code.
  • Convene and preside over monthly clinical staff meetings.
  • Leads clinical quality and clinical program development efforts and teams.
  • Attend leadership team meetings, staff meetings, meetings of the board of directors as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with outside agencies including hospitals, employers and provider groups.
  • Works collaboratively with Practice Manager to optimize workflow and productivity.
  • Ensures that patient billing and charge entry is completed daily
  • Develops policy and procedure to assure documentation compliance.
  • Participates in continuing education as required for professional license maintenance.
  • Coordinates with patients, providers, hospitals, and outside organizations regarding patient care issues.
  • Participates in peer review by performing chart review and working with the quality improvement committee to develop clinical assessment tools, etc.
  • Provides quality comprehensive primary care for a diverse population of at-risk patients.  Provides direct patient care at least fourteen (14) 12-hour shifts per month in a full-time position, including, if needed, evening work; other clinical administrative duties such as meetings, quality assurance, follow-up on test results, and completion of patient forms.
  • Provides comprehensive follow-up of laboratory tests including notification of patients of all results, and to provide appropriate follow-up of all abnormal results following the highest standards of medical care.
  • Provides education to patients on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Writes and refills prescriptions.
  • Makes medically necessary patient referrals to specialists and for hospitalization of recuperative care, or other appropriate care such as drug or alcohol detoxification.  Provides appropriate information to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Provides urgent and emergency care as required in the course of offering primary medical care.
  • Provides, with other physician staff members, continuous physician coverage, while on-site or by telephone.  Medical Director may be required to remain available to cover sites when colleagues are ill or on vacation.
  • Prepares accurate correspondence, reports and technical documentation as required for communication, recordkeeping, and/or reporting.
  • Records all patient information timely using Electronic Medical Records.
  • Serves as physician supervisor for nurse practitioners and physician assistants, ensuring the highest quality clinical care for patients co-managed.
  • Helps educate peers and other clinical staff by providing talks in areas of interest and expertise.
  • Attends and actively participates in department meetings, general staff meetings, quality assurance meetings, and other meetings, as required.
  • Performs any other reasonable and appropriate duties at the request of the CEO
  • Experience in outpatient health clinic setting and experience in a community health center setting working with underserved populations preferred.
